Wai-Yee started her career in finance in Singapore with a funds management firm in the early 1990's, after obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting with University of Newcastle. After qualifying as a CPA with CPA Australia, she furthered her education in finance with Macquarie University in a Masters of Applied Finance in 1995. Following post-graduate qualifications, she embarked on working in the stockbroking industry in Australia with Credit Suisse First Boston, Challenger First Pacific, ABN AMRO/RBS Morgans and Ord Minnett in the last more than two decades of her career, in financial advisory to high networth clients.
Wai-Yee established Acumen Investors in 2020 as the first step towards fulfilling the goal of providing investors with best-in-class investment products and services at fair prices. The goal was extended to empowering and supporting other Advisers within the Network with technologically driven infrastructure and institutional-level investment capabilities to better serve everyday investors (their clients) and for Advisers to better adapt to the evolving investment and compliance landscape.
Acumen Investors partners and work closely with external Investment/Asset Consultant(s). They add value to Acumen Investors’ capability by either acting as our Investment Committee in our Curated Managed Portfolios or in providing “in-house” research functionalities to Acumen Investors and its network of Advisers. This added institutional discipline ensures quality of investment advice to our clients.
Acumen Investors’ services are extended to Institutional Clients like Family Offices and Funds Management firms, particularly those based overseas; in providing the familiar institutional grade rigour and process to portfolio construction and management, be it ASX focused or multi-asset portfolios. Wai-Yee's vision for Acumen Investors is the provision of access to institutional grade wealth solutions to everyday investors, in a cost efficient manner.
Simple Sophistication. Wealth creation for All.

OptionsWise: How to invest Sensibly Book Review by Australian Investors Association, 2010
My congratulations on such a brilliant compilation. I have struggled so much with the concept of options, but your book gets to the essence of what options are all about, without the convoluted mumbo-jumbo that so many writers use to make themselves feel important. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. R K
I guess the co-incidences came in that much of the theory Nassim (Taleb of ‘Fooled by Randomness’ and ‘The Black Swan’) presents in his books are put to practice by the strategies in your book. M
My first reading really convince me that your book is very practical and the strategies are clearly explained — also with several alternative strategies in case initial set-up goes wrong. P
Dear Wai-Yee, I recently purchased your book and have started reading it. I wanted to tell you that I find your explanations very clear and informative, much to my relief as a true beginner in options. I fit the “Dr Alfred” in your book. Thank you for demystifying the subject. I also wanted to tell you what a nice surprise your personal note on the front page was for me. With best wishes to you and your family. L C
Hi, I have bought your book and think it is excellent. J B

Jeffrey M. Schwartz, MD, Research Psychiatrist University of California, Los Angeles author of You Are Not Your Brain and The Mind & The Brain
"This is a remarkable book. Wai-Yee Chen shows how neuroscience promises further to advance our knowledge of financial markets by identifying the neural processes that motivate investors' decisions. In particular, the book examines the brain's role in minimising threat and increasing reward. The result is a very enjoyable and easy-to-read insight into how the behaviour of large groups of consumers or investors can and does impact financial markets. This book should be required reading, not only for those involved in financial investment, but also for all those who have to make business decisions."
Colin Wallace, PhD The Center for Applied Neuroscience"It is hard to overcome your psychological biases . . . so don't! Use them to your benefit. NeuroInvesting shows you how to understand your own personality traits and then invest with a style that is consistent. Brilliant!"
John Nofsinger, PhD author of The Psychology of InvestingThe brain is an incredible instrument, but it is also a fabricator of reality. Yet you must interact with the market using your brain. And that's where Wai-Yee Chen's book, NeuroInvesting, comes into play. You create your reality by using your brain to give meaning, form beliefs, and make judgments.
Van Tharp, PhD, author of Trading Beyond the Matrix“This thought-provoking and adroit book provides a masterful synthesis of many fields of research. Wai-Yee Chen cogently weaves together relevant areas of neuroscience, psychology, and investing to provide an illuminating analysis of investment related to the economy. A great read!”
